 As a Westwood area landowner or homeowner operating on a septic system, you will be pleased to know that the Washington County Service Authority has secured almost 2.4 million in grants for the installation of a wastewater collection system in your neighborhood to replace aging septic systems.
This funding finally enables the WCSA to install a county-operated sewer system in Westwood-something we've waited more than 20 years to do. Westwood is one of Washington County's most mature neighborhoods, and as a property owner, you deserve this opportunity. With a connection to a new public sewer system, your home increases in property value, and you will be worry-free from the problems that likely will occur as your septic system continues to age.
Septic systems are built to last approximately 25 to 30 years, the average length of a home mortgage and the age of many homes in Westwood. The cost of replacing a septic system is $4500-$5000 if land is available for replacement. According to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, 95 percent of septic problems are caused by soil that becomes clogged after years of sewage disposal. Some of Westwood's residents are dealing with septic sytems failures right now; others will be facing those problems in the future.
With substantial grant monies available on what may be a one-time basis, now is the best opportunity for the WCSA to build a wastewater collection system that will handle your sewer needs into the future.
