Class Map

Washington County is divided into six areas called classes. Each class is billed separately once a month. Each MXU in a class is programmed to transmit a signal when that class is to be billed; it will not transmit a signal until the next billing for that class.

Class One is in Abingdon, from Virginia Highlands Airport to Abingdon High School. It ranges from 200-300 miles of driving to collect the readings. This takes approximately 13 hours. There are 5,325 customers in Class One. These meters are read around the fourth week of each month.

Class Two is from Abingdon High School to Meadowview, Emory, Glade Springs and Poor Valley. Class Two is about 300 miles of driving to collect the readings. This takes approximately 14 hours. There are 4,063 customers in Class Two. These meters are read around the first week of each month.

Class Three is from the Smyth County line to Mill Creek, Friendship, all of Lee Highway up to the intersection of Highway 58, and from 58 to Damascus, Taylors Valley and Widners Valley. Class Three is 350 miles of driving to collect the readings. This takes approximately 14 hours. There are 3,364 customers in Class Three. The meters in this class is read around the second week of each month.

Class Four is from Watauga Road to Highway 75, all of the South Holston Lake area, Denton Valley, Alvarado, Green Springs Road, Cleveland Road and Cummings Street to Interstate 81. Class Four is 200 miles of driving to collect the readings. This takes approximately 10 hours. There are 2,405 customers in Class Four. This class is read around the second week of each month.


Class Five is from the Virginia Highlands Airport to John Battle High School, Wyndale Road to Industrial Park Road, all of Gate City Highway, Reedy Creek Road. Class Five is 250 miles of driving to collect the readings. This takes approximately 10 hours. There are 2,622 customers in Class Five. The meters in this class are read around the third week of each month.

Class Six is from John Battle High School, Clear Creek Road, Wallace Pike and all of Benhams Road. Class Six also includes areas of Bristol, such as King Mill Pike, High Point, Sinking Creek, Old Jonesboro Road. Class Six is 250 miles for reading and takes about 9 hours. There are 2,369 customers in Class Six. The meters in this class are read around the third week of each month.
